Fresh Student of Federal University of Technology FUT, Minna in affiliation to Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka were given orientation recently. Delivering his welcome address, the provost of the College, Dr. Sijibomi Olusanya said the orientation programme was designed to edcuate and enlighten freshmen on the rules and regulations governing their stay in the University. He enjoined the students to engage themselves with activities that will make them grow academically, socially, morally and psychologically. Also, the Provost advised the students to keep away from drugs and other anti-social activities such as cultism because of the inherent danger to their lives and to their mission in the institution. They should maintain interpersonal relationship with one another, respect each other’s opinion, respect the lecturers and other members of staff so that the students can get the best at all times. Students should follow proper channel of communication to press home their demands.

The Provost was ably represented by this Deputy Dr. (Mrs.) Olajumoke Mekiliuwa. She congratulated the studnets and enjoined them to be focused, determined and dedicated adding that success is not a function of where they are coming from but a function of their minds. Citing some individuals from the University of Lagos that stood out as epitome of excellence, she stated that individual had two (2) degrees and became a PhD holder at 24yrs, urging the students to set this as their source of motivation. In his contribution, the Registrar Mr. Henry Otoighile congratulated the students adding that they should be proud of been in Lagos. He said that lecturers in Minna are not superior to Lagos, uring them to maintain good name and integrity, avoid all vices e.g. Cultism, examination malpractice, interact with colleages, listen attentively to resource persons and obey all rules and regulations of the University.

 THE 2013/2014 STUDENTS INDUSTRIAL WORK EXPERIENCE SCHEME (SIWES)

The Directorate of Degree Programmes held the 2013/2014 SIWES Orientation Programme on Monday, 3rd February 2014 are at the College New Multi-Purpose Hall with the Deputy Provost representing the Provost of the College, Industrial Training Fund (ITF) delegates, Heads of Department and the Directorate Staff in attendance.

In her remarks, the Deputy Provost/Chairperson of the Degree Programmes, Dr. (Mrs.) O.O. Mekiluwa urged the students to observe all the rules and regulations of the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme, as the programme is designed to educate and train them on the practical aspect of their studies. She also reiterated that will be introduce them to the world of work. The director also encouraged and emphasized on the need for the students to be good ambassadors of the college during the SIWES Exercise.

The Maiden Media Internship Orientation Exercise for 400 Level students was held on Tuesday 12th June, 2014 at the Science Complex Hall. The students were lectured on well robust Teaching Practice topics.

The 2013/2014 Teaching Practice Orientation Exercise for 400 Level students was held on Thursday 12th, June, 2014 at the Science Complex Hall. The students were lectured on well robust Teaching Practice topics.

2013/2014 FRESHMEN ORIENTATION PROGRAMME

The 2013/2014 Freshmen Orientation Programme took place on Tuesday, 15th July, 2014 at the Science Complex Hall. The Deputy Provost/Chairperson of the Programme, Dr. (Mrs.) O.O. Mekiluwa urged the freshmen to be focused on their studies in other to achieve their aim of attending the University. The programme was well attended by the Management Staff of the College.

The Director, Degree Programmes in her remarks urged all the freshmen to shun all negative activities capable of damaging lives and properties in the Campus.

RELEASE OF STUDENTS’ INDIVIDUAL RESULTS

The Directorate of Degree Programme recorded a great milestone this 2013/2014 academic session by the release of students’ individual results.

GRADUATING AND MOBILIZATION OF FIRST SET OF GRADUANDS TO NATIONAL YOUTH SERVICE SCHEME

The Directorate of Degree Programmes will graduate its first set of graduands by February, 2015. In view of this, all effort is being put in place to ensure all necessary conditions for graduation as specified by the Affiliate Institution (FUTMINNA) is met.

3RD MATRICULATION CEREMONY (2013/2014 ACADEMIC SESSION) OF FCE(T) AKOKA/FUTMINNA

The 3rd Matriculation Ceremony (2013/2014 Academic session) of Federal College of Education (Technical) Akoka in Affiliation with Federal University of Technology, Minna scheduled for Wednesday, 3rd September, 2014 was successfully done with the Federal University of Technology Officials, Federal College of Education (Technical) Akoka Management Team and Members of the College Academic Board gracing the occasion.

MAIDEN PROJECT DEFENCE OF THE DEGREE PROGRAMMES

The maiden project defence for 500 level students was organized to hold in three phases.

(i)                 Departmental Student Project Defence:- The departmental project defence was organized to get the students prepared for their final project defence. The exercise which was scheduled between Wednesday, 20th August to Thursday, 28th August, 2014 was done across the two departments of Science Education and Industrial Technology Education of the Degree Programme.

(ii)               Directorate Student Projct Defence is slated for Thursday, 2nd – Friday, 3rd October, 2014 at the Directorate of Degree Programmes.

(iii)             Final Student Project Defence is slated for Tuesday, 28th – Friday, 31st October, 2014 with FUTMinna officials.

DEGREE PROGRAMMES STUDENTS ENTREPRENEURSHIP ACTIVITIES

The  Degree Programme students are being exposed to entrepreneurship activities in various trades. Such as:

  • Soap and Disinfectant Production
  • Hat Making
  • Photography
  • Event Hall Decoration
  • House Wiring and
  • Screening Printing

This is a means to ensure their useful engagement for livelihood after graduation.
