Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka organizes Sensitization Programme on Ebola Virus disease. This awareness is necessary to enlighten the College Community on the deadly disease. In his opening remark, the Provost of the College, Dr. Sijibomi Olusanya enjoined the College Community to obey rules and regulations given by the Medical experts to prevent Ebola virus. While welcoming the guests, the Registrar of the College, Mr. Henry Otoighile said Staff and Students will learn good lessons on how to prevent them from Ebola Virus.
Delivering her lecture, Deputy Director, Directorate of Disease Control Lagos State Dr. (Mrs.) Omowunmi Bakare who represented the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health Dr. (Mrs.) Omodele Osunkiyesi said Ebola Virus is an endemic that is preventable, a national disaster. Sensitization is one of the ways we Campaign against Ebola. She said we can curtail Ebola.
Dr. Bakare said Ebola is in Nigeria, in West Africa and in Africa. We should continue to reinforce information to create awareness. We as a country man manage Ebola although Ebola virus is severe, it kills faster. Massive community awareness is needed, intensive surveillance is important. She tanked FCE Management for their proactive style adding that a lot of public enlightenment is on-going. In his Contribution, the head of medical services of the College Dr. Rotimi Adesanya gave the genesis of Ebola Virus. He urged the College Community to take hygiene very seriously. He said Ebola Virus posed the highest risk to national security and public health adding that Ebola Virus knows no borders. He told the audience that salt – water solution is harmful and that bitter-kola is not a cure to Ebola Virus disease.
